This stunning Medieval castle set on the edge of a sleepy village in the heart of the ever sought after region of Gascony is in exceptional repair and dates from the 14 and 16th centuries.

The Château as we know it today appears to have been built around 1340. However where it stands there was originally an older building, probably built of wood, a simple ‘motte’ or fortified camp, mentioned in texts dating from 1270 but of which the only trace that remains is the elevation of the land.

This is a perfect example of a Gascon Chateau - generally rectangular with one, or more often, two long Salons on each floor, flanked by two unequal towers. The tower of Saint Mère is 26 metres high whereas the tower of Saint Clair was unfortunately cut off at the top of the building at an unknown date. The main tower is at the axis of the village. At its base two doors face each other, one, carved in the 15th Century. Some of the village fortifications still remain and the Chateau has machicoulis on the three sides which do not face the village. The castle remained much as it was until 1500 when the extremely large windows were inserted in the thick walls of the medieval fortress, giving extensive views of the surrounding countryside. This was very much in the spirit of the Renaissance period. The Chateau, listed M.H. in 1994 has retained many fine architectural features. About 750m2 of habitable space.
