This former defensive complex stands in the Berry region at the edge of a village with shops. Châteauroux with its 73,000 inhabitants is also only 20 minutes away, providing access to a railway station, motorway and all amenities. The property was built for military purposes and comprises a keep surrounded by ditches and a river, as well as a series of dwellings gathered around a closed courtyard. The property’s military character was toned down at the beginning of the XIXth Century when a bright and airy Château was added to the ensemble, making it pleasant to live in. The château is connected to the keep and to another large tower by elegant neo renaissance galleries.
The keep or “donjon” was built in the XIIth. Century. It has 5 rooms, one on top of the other, topped by a high roof. There are watchtowers on the upper part of the building and one can still see the exact place where the drawbridge’s arms used to rest.
The galleries are wonderful Neo Renaissance architecturual jewels, connecting the 'donjon' to a large tower and the XIXth Century château. They feature ribbed vaults set on twisted columns and are possibly inspired by the chateau de Blois.
The other corner tower also offers a number of superposed rooms, with monumental fireplaces all connected by a spiral staircase.
All the towers and galleries that connect them are listed.
