A Mas is the term used for a farmhouse in Provence. It is increasingly

built in the style of an original Provencal Mas of stone, the
price range extends from 3-400,000 Euros up to six figure amounts
depending on the size of the property and whether it has additional
features such as Gites or Chambres d'Hotes - or whether it is
in a particularly sought after area ( for example the coast or
the Luberon) - where prices reflect the income brackets of the
international community who reside there. Frequently with their
shutters painted in shades of blue or green or French grey - they
are extremely attractive. The interior may be quite dark in the
original Mas since they usually have small windows in order to
be able to shut out the glare and heat of the mid-day sun.

Donjon in Midi Pyrénées |
Tower or Donjon
The term 'Donjon' in French does not as you might think signify
a 'dungeon' ( the name for which is in fact a 'cachot'), but rather
refers to a tower or the keep of a Chateau or Castle. This
example stands alone, presumably as a relic of a medieval fortified
building.Whilst writing about towers, it is also quite useful to
know that the term 'Chateau d'eau' in France has nothing to
do with a majestic castle, but refers to a water tower!
